Welcome back to Behind The Scenes, the column where we look into the day-to-day life of a community member. In this week’s edition, we will look at the life of Sanya, who currently serves as a Head Moderator and Judge.
Sanya first joined the army community in 2017, by enlisting in the Rebel Penguin Federation, in the middle of the infamous Great Tuba War, which resulted in a Rebel virtual victory. However, her time in the community was short-lived, as she retired shortly after that.
After a three-year break, Sanya rejoined the community on April 21st, officially entering the Army of Club Penguin. During her tenure in the army, she rapidly ascended through the ranks, achieving the positions of Chief Officer and Supervisor. She also actively partook in several significant conflicts, including the World War Rewritten, and participated in prestigious tournaments, such as Legends Cup XI. Despite her time in the ACP being extremely gratifying and enjoyable, all good things unfortunately come to an end. On August 31, 2021, Sanya announced her retirement from the army. However, this didn’t signify the end of her career in the community.
Being the person of immense kindness and generous heart that she is, Sanya decided to contribute to the army community by applying for the position of Judge. One could never deny her experience in the role, as she judged countless tournaments, including several iterations of March Madness, Christmas Chaos, and, most recently, Legends Cup XIII. Believe it or not, she has been judging for almost three years! Nevertheless, Sanya did not cease her contributions to the community to that extent.
It was on November 6th, 2022, when Sanya was hired as a Club Penguin Armies moderator. She applied intending to become an AUSIA moderator, considering her time zone, in addition to her strong desire to ensure the safety of our community. Due to her hard work in the role, former administrator Wynn promoted Sanya in August 2023. She did not expect this promotion, and, in her own words, was shocked when she found it out. Sanya describes herself as a behind-the-scenes Head Moderator, making sure everything goes smoothly and carefully instructing her fellow moderators.
Let us now direct our attention to the Sanya behind the screens! For those who may not know, Sanya is from the Philippines, an archipelagic country in Southeast Asia. She portrays her country as full of welcoming and kind people, especially towards foreigners. She also remarked that her country is one of the freest countries in that region of Asia. While many countries there do not uphold general freedom of speech and expression, the Philippines bear these fundamental rights. An often overlooked fact, which Sanya affectionately highlighted, is that the Philippines bear strong Spanish influences dating back to colonization. Many terms and words are spoken in Spanish because they are easier to remember than in Filipino.
Sanya is currently a high school student. While she may struggle with pre-calculus homework, her favorite subject turns out to be History and Economics. In the latter subject, she is taught topics such as countries’ gross domestic product [GDP], economic systems, and even tax laws. Given that History is her favorite subject, it is no surprise that one of her cherished hobbies involves reading books related to World War II and the Cold War. Besides that, Sanya enjoys watching anime shows, with Quintessential Quintuplets, Spy X Family, and Gate being her favorite shows. Moreover, she loves cooking and enjoys experimenting with new recipes. Surprisingly, she also enjoys taking long walks and exploring the outside world, despite being a CPA Head Moderator.
What was the reason behind the choice of the name Sanya?
It’s a combination between my name and the name of my best friend and she decided to give me the nickname “Sanya” and I really liked it so I kept it.
Have you ever played Club Penguin before your arrival in the army community?
Yes, back in 2010-2011 I would play Club Penguin with my sister.
Do you think you benefited from the community, or hold any particular regret?
I benefited from making very good friends that I still keep in touch with to this day but I do have multiple regrets when it comes with dealing with certain toxicity in the community.
Do you have any plans for your future in the community?
Just stay chilling as a judge or head moderator for AUSIA for now.
How would you describe Sanya as a person? What are her strong and weak points?
Generally a chill and relaxed and easy person to talk with and generally likes to showcase their humor and my strong points are I always know what to talk about and my weak points are I’m a lazy person irl and like to take tons of naps throughout the day.
Getting to know more about the members of our community strengthens the bonds we share. Certainly, learning a bit more about our Head Moderator was a very pleasant experience. She is undoubtedly someone who radiates positive and joyful energy, a person who is unassuming yet rich when you delve into her inner world. What does the future hold for Sanya? Who do you think will be the next to break the rules and make Sanya take action?
